Min: Operators invest 4 bln rbl in connection nets for FIFA matches
KAZAN, May 26 (PRIME) -- Russian mobile operators have jointly invested 4 billion rubles in connection infrastructure at 11 stadiums hosting soccer matches of the FIFA Confederations Cup and the World Cup, Communications and Mass Media Minister Nikolai Nikiforov told reporters on Friday.
The operators spent their own money, Nikiforov said.
The ministry chose a different model of providing sports facilities with connection now as compared to the model used during the 2014 Sochi Olympics, when mobile operator MegaFon and state-controlled telecom operator Rostelecom received state contracts and the right to unroll networks.
“Now every stadium has a special single antenna system inside. This system is used primarily by the big four operators (MTS, MegaFon, VimpelCom, and T2 RTK Holding) and there is a fifth local regional operator in several cities. They all get connected to the system and work together. That’s why everyone will enjoy good connection here,” Nikiforov said.
The FIFA Confederations Cup will be held in four Russian cities on June 17–July 2. The World Cup matches will be organized in 11 cities on June 14–July 15, 2018.
